The New York Times is reporting that Memphis punk-rocker Jay Reatard has died:
Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., the Memphis musician better known by his punk-rock stage name Jay Reatard, has died, his record label Goner Records said on Wednesday.
Matador Records, which released Reatard’s 2009 album Watch Me Fall, released this statement:
We are devastated by the death of Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., aka Jay Reatard. Jay was as full of life as anyone we’ve ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We’re honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly.
Reatard gained national exposure in the underground music scene the past few years for his fuzz-infected punk tunes and his oft-chaotic live performances. Reatard was 29.
