Music videos rarely tell stories anymore. So it’s great to come across a director who can tap into the emotional vibrancy of a song and bring it out into their original narritive.
Director and animator Tobias Gundorff Boesen gets it. He used The National‘s “Slow Show” for a bittersweet tale about a bunny in his stop-motion animated short, “Out Of A Forest”:

The video is simply enchanting, and The National’s music perfectly compliments the film’s highs, lows and in-betweens. Although the song’s lyrics don’t quite follow the movie’s narrative structure, singer Matt Berninger’s heartfelt baritone adds an extra measure of emotional texture to the story it works out well.
My friend Ethan, who got me hooked on The National when he’d blast “Mr. November” back in undergrad, sent this to a handful of our mutual friends, and I can’t thank him enough. This little film is a joy to watch, and I hope someone out there is lucky enough to stumble upon it too.
