Guitar's Got You Stumped?

January 10, 2009 / Leave a Comment

The big news that folks have been paying attention to the other day from Apple’s presentation at the Macworld Expo was the announcement that iTunes will now offer DRM-Free tracks to download off their website. Another one of the interesting features presented by Apple for the new year is the new edition of iLife’s GarageBand. … [Read more…]

One Last Fall Out…

December 16, 2008 / Leave a Comment

The Village Voice wrote that a secret show by Fall Out Boy in NYC’s Washington Square Park was shut down by police earlier today. This prompted Patrick Stump to perform some a cappella renditioning of the band’s material, not unlike the highly politicized and potentially-violent confrontation that Rage Against the Machine had this summer at … [Read more…]

Behind The Back Battles

December 15, 2008 / Leave a Comment

How about this quote from The New York Times on Caroline Kennedy’s attempt to gain Hilary Clinton’s Senate seat: “Already, some other Democrats have pointedly questioned her credentials for the job. Rep. Gary Ackerman, a Queens Democrat, said last week that he didn’t know what Ms. Kennedy’s qualifications were, ‘except that she has name recognition … [Read more…]

Falling Out if there's no Dance Dance

December 14, 2008 / 2 Comments

The New York Times had a great two-hitter of music articles this weekend: *Jon Caramanica’s profile on Patrick Stump, mainstream rock’s “most invisible frontman,” offers some great insight into Fall Out Boy and has given me even more newfound respect for the band. Even as they flirt with tasteless arena rock, the band sure manages … [Read more…]

Breaking: The Roots & Jimmy Fallon

December 9, 2008 / 1 Comment

If the thought of Jimmy Fallon filling in Conan O’Brien’s shoes was… well, the last thing you would have thought, here’s something even more absurd: The Roots will be Fallon’s house band. Ummm… what? Now Carson Daly will have to one-up Fallon. But how? Fall Out Boy perhaps?

90s Emo Is Back and More

November 15, 2008 / 2 Comments

In quick news bites… *The Get Up Kids have a reunion show in Kansas City this Sunday. *Blake Schwarzenbach has a new band called the Thorns of Life, who will hopefully be touring soon. *The Phoenix rags on Joe Biden for his association with a certain Fall Out Boy. That’s so low it’s just sad.

Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2008 / Leave a Comment

To celebrate Halloween, a quick little post with a couple covers of a purported favorite film among emo kids (and here I thought most people of our generation who grew up with it had a basic fondness towards the movie) by a couple of famous emo acts. Here goes… Panic! At The Disco – “This … [Read more…]

Kanye Wemo

October 21, 2008 / 1 Comment

It’s been a number of days, but Stereogum’s post on Kanye West’s “Coldest Winter” caught my eye for oh so many reasons. Of course, images offer the best summation. Thanks Stereogum: The post offers an interesting look at the perception of emo today. Given that Stereogum doesn’t play into mainstream music standards and often prides … [Read more…]

From Fall Out Boyz to the Man

October 16, 2008 / Leave a Comment

It seems like Fall Out Boy really are that boy band in emo as each release progresses. Take for example, “What A Catch, Donnie” off the group’s forthcoming album, Folie A Deux: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YkguquIq2Y] You’ve got to give the Fall Out Boyz a good chunk of credit. They’re beating My Chemical Romance at their own game … [Read more…]
