April 20, 2009 / 3 Comments

And they say scene kids have no sense of humor: Probably not real, but I may be just curious enough to drop that email a line…

Lucero at Paradise

April 17, 2009 / Leave a Comment

Lookout for a Lucero review on Bostonist in the next day or two. A quick review: 2 hours of belting out Southern emotive punk rawk transported The Paradise from Boston to the middle of Memphis.

Interview with Travis Morrison

April 16, 2009 / 2 Comments

When I last dropped a line about America Is Just A Word, I mentioned that I’d be interviewing a few different artists who’s bands’ narratives are either barely known or not given the proper coverage. One of those groups is The Dismemberment Plan, fronted by Travis Morrison. Of the three groups mentioned in the previous … [Read more…]

New Plymouth and the Emo Killers

April 15, 2009 / 2 Comments

So it goes, as there’s more news of aggression towards “emos” in the world, this time in New Plymouth, New Zealand. An article by Leighton Keith in the Taranaki Daily News appeared a few weeks ago detailing newly arising aggression towards those who appear to adhere to popularized emo fashion: “The teenagers say they are … [Read more…]

Exusamwa

April 14, 2009 / Leave a Comment

I can’t believe I have yet to catch this band…. Granted, Exusamwa have only had three public shows, but still… they’ve got members of Fat Day, Life Partners, and the owner of Weirdo Records! And they’re as secretive as none other, nothing but a few online pics to do justice (that’s right – not even … [Read more…]

Singles vs. Albums

April 13, 2009 / Leave a Comment

“Personally, all of my favorite bands/artists are my favorites because of their albums, not singles. They created their own world within those albums to an extent that you just can’t do with much detail on one song.” –Dan Friel, Parts & Labor You can read the rest of my interview with Dan and flip … [Read more…]

Last Year In…

April 9, 2009 / 2 Comments

Music-and-film based satire blog The Umpteenth Times posted a great piece involving stimulus plans and Fugazi. What a gag:   “Fugazi to Receive Stimulus Check from Government By Frank Gurbleck   WASHINGTON D.C.—Earlier this week, the Washington D.C.-based band, Fugazi, received notice that they will be receiving a stimulus check as a part of President Obama’s attempt … [Read more…]

Tune Travis Tune: An America Is Just A Word Update

April 8, 2009 / 3 Comments

I’ve got some exciting updates in the progress of America Is Just A Word. While I’m content with what I’ve already written for the book, I must admit that, from conversations with other individuals and some time mulling it over, it does need a little something… more. In and of itself, I feel the book has … [Read more…]

Clarity Live

April 7, 2009 / Leave a Comment

Yeah, there’s no doubt they sent this to everyone who bought their tickets for the Clarity X 10 tour, but you have to hand it to Jimmy Eat World for really caring about their fans:   “A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR BOSTON FANS This is a note of gratitude directed at you from us, Jimmy Eat World, … [Read more…]

April 6, 2009 / Leave a Comment

My buddy Dan sent me a link to this hilarious personal ad: …and of course he enjoys romantic sunsets and wants a long term relationship… You have to wonder if anyone returned the ad and under what circumstances…
